Planned City Of India – Chandigarh

In this blog we will take a look at a city which is the only planned city in India, further down the blog we will come to know the significance of it. When talking about state capitals or important town or cities, their importance seems to come only two things, either they are trading centre or an administrative centre. This example can be seen in many places, for example, the Delhi and Mumbai, Kochi and Trivandrum, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, Guwahati and Dispur. In India the early town centres were made by farmers, even today this trend continues even today, for example, Pune, Rajkot and Nashik. To be honest, since the growth was so organic, no one really needed the planned city ever, as soon cities were crowded the nearby towns simply became a satellite or twin city style structure, for example, Noida, Pune, Gurugram etc. This where Chandigarh stands out from the crowd. Chandigarh is one of the very few cities in India which is an example of a planned city.

Since Chandigarh is one of the few planned cities in India, it is a city which is filled with gardens, parks, wide roads, and structures inspired by modern architecture.
